Asian Catholic bishops welcome Biden's victory in US elections

The Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC) welcomed the election of Joe Biden as president of the United States of America.

"We warmly send our prayerful wishes and congratulations to the people of America and the President-Elect Joe Biden," read a statement signed by Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, FABC president.

The prelates noted that with the election of Biden the United States "enters into a new phase in their glorious history, affirming democracy and universal good."

"President-Elect Joe Biden comes from a long tradition of Catholic faith-based life. His concern for the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor is a refreshing welcome," read the bishops' statement.

"The world with its poor and its climate challenges look forward to the USA fortifying the global fight against global warming and poverty," it added.

"With prayerful wishes we welcome him and do hope his tenure will pay greater attention to countries in the margins like Myanmar," read the statement.

The federation of Catholic bishops' conferences expressed hope that the United States "will play its leadership role in the company of international organizations like the UN.

"President-Elect Joe Biden’s Catholic faith will help him in his long journey of seeking economic and environmental justice for all, the themes that guide the global Catholic Church and the US Catholic Bishops’ Conference," it added.

"Surely the President-Elect will have further chances to engage the Catholic church in building a world of peace and justice," read the statement.

The Asian bishops said they join the American bishops in praying to the Blessed Virgin Mary  to intercede for the United States, saying, “May she help all of us to work together to fulfil the beautiful vision of America’s missionaries and founders — one nation under God, where the sanctity of every human life is defended and freedom of conscience and religion are guaranteed.”

Biden has been an advocate of abortion rights, a contentious issue among Catholics, vowing to enact legislation making Roe vs Wade “the law of the land” if it were overturned by the US Supreme Court.

Roe vs Wade is a landmark decision of the US Supreme Court that ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction.

In 2019, he said that reproductive rights “are a constitutional right. And, in fact, every woman should have that right.”

President-elect Biden declared it was “time to heal” a deeply divided America in his first speech after prevailing in a bitter election over the weekend.

President Donald Trump, however, refused to concede and pressed ahead with legal fights against the outcome.

“The people of this nation have spoken. They have delivered us a clear victory, a convincing victory,” said Biden in his home town of Wilmington, Delaware.

The Democrat pledged that as president he would seek to unify the country and “marshal the forces of decency” to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, rebuild economic prosperity, secure healthcare for American families and root out systemic racism.

“This is the time to heal in America,” he said. - RVA News

These bishops, like so many, are just full of blather. They are either fools, cowards, or Communists like the American Democrat Party.

Dear FABC,

Your well intentioned congratulatory statement supporting Biden has done damage to the Catholic Churches image, and politics in the USA. The US election is not officially decided, and that may not happen for a few weeks yet due to recounting, etc. Also there has been very serious voter fraud by the Democrat Party which must be decided in the courts. The media have picked their chosen candidate, Biden, as President elect, but that means nothing. Note that Biden is not a Catholic in good standing, he is strongly pro-abortion. He is a corrupt politician and has sold out to Communist China, Ukraine, Iran, and other countries.
You should start working on your apology and retraction, as Donald J Trump will be re-elected for four more years after illegal votes are discarded.

And may I kindly suggest you read Archbishop Vigano open letter to President Trump dated Friday October 30, 2020 concerning issues in this election. Abp has a clear mind and clear style of writing.
Thank you for your time.

Your Eminence, your congratulations to Biden is terribly misplaced! He is for abortion even as the child is coming
Out of the womb of the mother. Did your Eminence know that he receives communion even though he does NOT support anything Catholic? Do you know that even the Catholic Bishops of the US have congratulated him and that the millions of Catholics who voted for Trump have been let down by our own Bishops???
Our Bishops are some afraid of these evil politicians. Have you researched how many times he has been refused communion in the last few years by our clergy?
There are a few US Bishops who are his darlings. Did you know that his Vice President Elect Kamala Harris hates Catholics and the Knights of Columbus? He has also officiated at Gay Marriages. Do your own research before making such statements that makes our lives as Catholics. There are a minority of Catholics who voted for Biden , the traitor!!! How does a Bishop of Asia make a comment like you? I still cannot imagine how you would make a statement like that??? Kevin Coelho
