Bishop Anthony Adoun Hongsaphong of Apostolic Vicariate of Vientiane

Bishop Anthony Adoun Hongsaphong of Apostolic Vicariate of Vientiane, Laos.

On March 25, 2025, Father Anthony Adoun Hongsaphong was ordained as the bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Vientiane, Laos, succeeding Cardinal Louis-Marie Ling Mangkhanekhoun, I.V.D.

Born on April 4, 1964, in Paksé, Laos, Bishop Hongsaphong studied philosophy and theology at St. Charles Boromée Major Seminary and earned a degree from the Université de Fribourg in Switzerland.

He was ordained a priest on September 3, 1994, for the clergy of the Apostolic Vicariate of Paksé.

He obtained a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas—Angelicum in Rome (1994–1996) and served in various pastoral and academic roles, including:

  • Parish vicar of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand (1997–1999)

  • Judge of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Tharé-Nonseng, Thailand (1997–2005)

  • Parish priest of the Holy Family in Ban Nongkhu, Thailand (1999–2005)

  • Rector of the Pastor Bonus Preparatory Seminary in Paksé, Laos (2005–2014)

  • Parish priest of the Cathedral and head of 12 Catholic communities in the Apostolic Vicariate of Paksé (2005–2014)

Since 2005, he has also been a professor of Canon Law, Sacramental Law, Ecumenism, and Introduction to Sacred Scripture at the National Major Seminary in Thakeh, while overseeing pastoral care in 11 mission stations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Paksé.

Now, as the newly ordained bishop of Vientiane, he continues his mission of shepherding the faithful in Laos.
