Indonesian Catholic University offers scholarships to East Timor students

The Indonesian Catholic University, Atma Jaya, grants 50 scholarships to East Timorese students. The university rector signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the rector of the University of Timor Leste on July 21 in Jakarta.

The Rector of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, Agustinus Prasetyantoko, announced the scholarships at a conference on international cooperation among educational institutions.

"The scholarship is an effort to make sure that all young people have equal access to science education," he said.

Delivering the presidential lectur on "From Global and Regional Politics to Innovative Approaches and Solutions," José Ramos-Horta, of Timor Leste described how collaboration in education is one way for Timor Leste and Indonesia to improve their talk about politics in the real world. "Education solves global and regional political problems to make people better and more professional", he said.

"The scholarships that Unika Atma Jaya gives to young Timorese show that the two countries get along well. This has helped Timor Leste's education grow," he said.

In 2021, the Unika Atma Jaya offered free tuition to 248 students of which 20% of the money went to East Timorese students.

The University of Atma Jaya is dedicated to preparing young people for a better future based on Christian values and professionalism so that they can grow up to be good people who care about others.

The university was founded in 1960, and offers 20 undergraduate  and 14 graduate programs, as well as 4 professionals courses.

This Catholic university has won several national and international awards, including the highest category for social responsibility and employability in 2019 and five stars for online learning in 2020.
