The archbishop of Seoul urged the faithful to spend the upcoming new year, which is a Jubilee Year in the Catholic Church, dreaming of “new beginnings.” Archbishop Peter Chung Soon-taick said that 2025, declared Jubilee of Hope by Pope Francis, must be dedicated to reflecting on the “thirst for truth” and “goodness and beauty.”

“We can never give up even in the face of despair… We look forward to building a new community in the
love of the Lord through hope,” he said.

The prelate said the hope must be held at utmost importance this new year after 2024 ended “with great pain and confusion” due to the sudden martial declared in South Korea on early December 2024.

“Even in the midst of these trials, we were able to find hope. This is the image of mature citizenship and
peaceful solidarity shown by our people,” he stated.

Archbishop Chung shared that he prays for hope to strengthen the resolve not just of every Catholics but of all South Koreans.

“I hope that the possibilities of hope that we have already seen will blossom even more, and that we will become a community that reaches out to each other for the common good, not for our own benefit, and where we become a sign of hope for each other,” he prayed.

“Let us forgive and reconcile with one another, and work to make our society a more just and peaceful community,” the archbishop also said.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
