Philippines singer-songwriter launches album useful to 2025 Jubillee Year of Hope

A Filipino singer-songwriter and retreat facilitator launched his newest album dubbed “Misa ng Pag-Asa” on April 12 at the Church of the Gesù at Ateneo de Manila University, in collaboration with “Hangad” and the Jesuit Music Ministry.

He is from Baco, Oriental Mindoro, and brings over 30 years of ministry experience.

According to JOSH: Jescom Online Shop, Mimo L. Perez is known for songs like Buksan, Pariseo, and We Are the Church. He rarely wrote liturgical music—until the pandemic stirred a deep inspiration to respond through song. From that season of uncertainty and faith, MISA NG PAG-ASA was born—a musical offering filled with messages of healing, light, and collective hope.

“Be part of this special moment and help bring the music to your community,” said Perez, a life coach on Positive Living. The album features fresh sounds from the new mass-setting album.

“I’ve written several songs in the past 40 years. While a few could be classified as liturgical music, the majority are inspirational or spiritual songs intended for personal meditation or theme songs for various occasions, said Perez.

He had long wanted a full set of vernacular liturgical songs for the Eucharist. “Thanks to the unique experience of the pandemic, MISA NG PAG-ASA was born," said Perez.

He posted on his social media page a personal invitation for all. The event is open to everyone with free admission. “I hope you can join us,” he said.

The album is a complete set of Filipino mass songs. Written during the pandemic on the theme of hope, the songs capture the faithful’s longing for God amid prolonged uncertainty. Perez said that, “as liturgical music, the songs have a clear theological and scriptural foundation.

He aimed to adhere to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal in terms of creating liturgical music.

The album wishes to help masses of people draw strength from the inexhaustible power of hope amid life’s uncertainties through liturgical music to advance the synodal experience of participation in the Philippine Church by offering new mass songs in the vernacular that can be sung easily—songs that most Filipino Catholics, especially the poor, can readily relate to. It also wishes to enable Filipino Catholics to celebrate meaningfully the 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope with the theme Pilgrims of Hope.
