Jesuit priest holds vocation discernment program in Cambodia
From March 6 to 10, 2024, at St. Michael Catholic Community, Sihanouk City, 10 Catholic youth gathered to think about the essence of life under the theme “Principles and foundations according to Saint Ignatius of Loyola.”
Saint Ignatius is a Spanish priest and founder of the Society of Jesus.
Located at the point of an elevated peninsula in the southwest of the country on the Gulf of Thailand, Sihanoukville, also known as Kampong Saom, is a coastal city in Cambodia and the capital of Preah Sihanouk Province.
The focus of the program was to learn about their calling in life to know, love, and serve God according to their gifts and abilities, said Jesuit Father Chour Damo, director of Jesuit Vocation Promotion in Cambodia.
In his talks, he explained to the participants, “The two sources of joy in life include one that comes from outside of ourselves and the other from within ourselves.”
“And we look at how each of us, as well as our society today, values the source of joy more. And what source should we, as Christians, stress to live with a stable mind,” he added.
Over two nights and three days, the young men prayed, communicated, listened to testimonies, did various programs and workshops together, and spent time hanging out together.
Hopefully, participants will discern to follow Jesus, serving others and the Catholic community in Cambodia and beyond, said Father Damo.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
