India: A call to hope, Cardinal Poola inaugurates Jubilee Year 2025 in Hyderabad Archdiocese
On December 29, 2024, Cardinal Anthony Poola, Archbishop of Hyderabad, inaugurated the Jubilee Year 2025 in the archdiocese during a solemn ceremony at Saint Joseph Cathedral, Gunfoundry, on the feast day of the Holy Family.
He urged the faithful to embrace this year as a time of spiritual renewal, growth, and active service.
The celebrations began with a procession from the Rosary Convent at 6 p.m., led by Cardinal Poola, accompanied by priests, religious leaders, and lay faithful. The procession made its way to the Holy Doors of Saint Joseph Cathedral, where the Holy Cross was honored.
In his homily, Poola focused on the theme of the Jubilee Year, "Hope doesn’t disappoint us," urging the congregation to embrace hope as a transformative force in their lives.
He stressed that hope, rooted in love, calls the faithful to become "people of hope," spreading the light of Christ throughout the world.
Drawing inspiration from the lives of Jesus, His mother, and St. Joseph, he reflected on the importance of love and trust in God's providence.
Cardinal Poola also handed over the Jubilee Pilgrim Cross to 12 Deaneries, including Bowenpally, Emjala, Gagillapuram, Gajwel, Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Ramanthapur, Sangareddy, Secunderabad, Shamshabad, Trimulgherry, and Vikarabad.
In a significant move, the cardinal declared five churches in the archdiocese to be Jubilee Pilgrim Centers: St. Mary’s Basilica, Secunderabad, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Gunfoundry, Our Lady of Good Health Shrine, Khairatabad, St. Anthony’s Shrine, Mettuguda and Infant Jesus Shrine, Emjala.
These centers will serve as places for spiritual growth, reconciliation, and active service, inviting the faithful to deepen their commitment to the Church.
The inauguration concluded with a solemn Eucharistic celebration, supported by Monsignor Yeruva Bala Showry, the parish priest.
As the archdiocese embarks on this Holy Year, Poola's message calls the faithful to embrace both the spiritual and practical dimensions of the Jubilee Year, fostering hope, renewal, and stewardship within families, communities, and society at large.-Pujitha Nagalli
