Divine Word missionaries mark 25 years of service in Thailand
Societas Verbi Divini (SVD), also known as Divine Word missionaries, is celebrating its 25th anniversary of service in Thailand this year.
The Australian Province of SVDs oversees the missionaries in Thailand, with Br. Damien Lunders being one of the founders of the SVD community in the country.
Bishop Joseph Luechai Thatwisai of Udon Thani Diocese, where the majority of SVDs have been serving for the past 25 years, has expressed his appreciation for their missionary work.
The SVDs, aside from acknowledging their dedicated service, express their gratitude to the diocesan leadership, other religious congregations, and the local communities for their cooperation and support.
They also recognize the efforts and impact of SVD members in ministries such as HIV/AIDS care, education, and pastoral care.
This milestone provides an opportunity for the SVDs to recommit to their mission work with creativity and vigor.
They recognize the importance of adapting to the evolving needs of those they serve and emphasize fostering peace, understanding, and positive mission endeavors for the future.
What sets the SVD missionaries apart is not only their willingness to interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds but also their proactive approach to addressing local issues.
Their empathic approach strikes a chord with the individuals they support and reinforces the belief that the SVD missionaries are dedicated allies who genuinely care about the welfare of others.
In addition to helping migrant laborers and asylum seekers, SVDs support vulnerable families and offer pastoral care and outreach to those living in impoverished parishes. They have left a lasting influence on the individuals they serve.
Their commitment to mission work and their ability to adapt to the needs of the communities they serve are commendable.
The positive impact they have made through various ministries and their empathic approach to addressing social issues solidify their role as valuable allies and sources of support.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
