Power of the Lord's Prayer
June 20, Thursday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Sirach 48:1-14; Matthew 6:7-15
The first reading recounts the remarkable deeds of Elijah and Elisha during their time on earth. They performed miracles such as bringing fire from heaven, reviving the dead, anointing kings, and choosing their successors.
After Elijah was taken up in a whirlwind, his successor Elisha, filled with a double portion of Elijah's spirit, performed many marvels with his mere word. Throughout his life, he feared no one, and no man could intimidate him. His power was limitless, even bringing the dead back to life.
In today's Gospel, Jesus taught his disciples the proper way to pray. The content of the "Our Father" prayer is fully detailed in Matthew chapter six, providing a complete model of prayer.
The four elements of prayer are as follows:
- Adoration: Praising God for who He is and what He has done.
- Confession: Apologizing for the hurt caused to God and others.
- Thanksgiving: Thanking God for all He has done for us.
- Supplication: Asking God to grant us what we need.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: Every time we pray the "Our Father," we ask God to provide for our needs, forgive our sins, guide us away from temptation, and deliver us from evil.
Lord, may we daily pray fervently the Lord’s Prayer. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
