India: Interfaith Prayer Meeting Held to Promote Peace

nter-Faith Prayer for Peace and Harmony held at the National Gandhi Centre on March 29, 2025, promoting unity and non-violence.

On March 29, 2025, an interfaith prayer meeting was organized for the unity of India at the Mahatma Gandhi Museum, Rajghat, New Delhi.

Clergy and people from all religions participated, including people from the communities of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, and Zoroastrianism.

The meeting reflected India's unity and diversity.

Everybody prayed for the unity of the nation. Despite the diversity of faiths, languages, and cultures, the meeting revealed that everyone is fundamentally Indian, with the tricolor fluttering in the air.

Interfaith prayer meetings are important in India because, for decades, the country has witnessed sporadic attacks on religious minorities, especially Christians and Muslims.

Father Norbert Herman SVD, an avid promoter of inter-religious dialogue, represented the Christian clergy.

He said that the purpose of the event was to foster national unity and non-violence.

He sang hymns like the Kabir Das-composed hymn 'Mann Lago Mero Yaar Fakiri Mein' and the Lenten Hymn 'Jahaan so raha, Zameen so rahi.'

The event concluded with a moment of silence and a collective pledge for peace and harmony. This gathering served as a powerful reminder of the importance of religious unity and Gandhi’s ideals of coexistence.

Ansar coordinated the interfaith program, which delighted all, reminding them to work for peace and harmony in the country.

“The meeting ended with all of us singing the song composed by Mahatma Gandhi, namely 'Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram,'” said Rohan Anirudh Singh.
