Balancing Devotion, Service, and Faith
July 29, Monday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time
Memorial of Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus
Daily Readings: Jeremiah 13:1-11; John 11:19-27
The Feast of St. Martha, Mary, and Lazarus celebrates three siblings who each embody different aspects of devotion to God. Martha, the practical and industrious sister, focuses on service and hospitality.
Mary, the contemplative one, chooses to sit at Jesus' feet, listening and finding peace in His presence. Lazarus, who was raised from the dead by Jesus, reminds us of the power of faith and friendship.
The first reading emphasizes love as the fruit of our relationship with God, while the Gospel reveals Jesus as the source of eternal life through faith in Him. Martha’s faith in Jesus' power, even in uncertainty, teaches us to trust in His authority.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: Today's feast encourages us to balance service, contemplation, and friendship in our lives. How do we strive for this balance?
Let us ask God for the grace to love Him with all our heart, strength, mind, and soul. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
