Vatican's Apostolic Nuncio confirms Pope Francis's visit to Timor Leste
Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Timor Leste in 2022. The Vatican's Apostolic Nuncio to Timor-Leste, Monsignor Marco Sprizzi, has confirmed this information, as released by Tatoli News on March 1, 2022.
"We are merely confirming Pope Francis' decision to visit Timor-Leste. I also met with him and confirmed his decision," the Holy Father's representative, Francisco, stated following the conclusion of the meeting with the Minister of the Council of Ministers at the Government Palace in Dili.
Monsignor Marco Sprizzi said that the exact date of Pope Francis' visit to Timor Leste would be announced later.
This is because of "differing international circumstances," he assured.
However, he added that Pope Francis' decision to visit Timor-Leste is confirmed.
According to Monsignor Marco Sprizzi, "the Holy See's thoughts are always with the Timorese people and state at any point in Timor-Democratic Leste's life," he was quoted as saying in a report on Tatoli News.
The papal representative stated that Pope Francis has "Timor Leste in his heart."
Pope Francis decided to put off his trip to Timor-Leste in September 2020 because of the spread of the new coronavirus.
Pope Francis is visiting Timor-Leste as part of an Asian tour that includes Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea.
