‘Run Bhopal Run.’ An Environmental Awareness Marathon by Catholic NGO SAMMAN in Bhopal

A Catholic NGO in Bhopal, the central Indian State, organized a marathon race, Run Bhopal Run on November 28 with a view to creating awareness of environmental issues.

Mrs. Malti Rai, the Mayor of Bhopal City Municipal Corporation flagged off the marathon by waving a green flag.

The goal of the race was to create awareness to save mother earth, said the organizers.

150 boys and girls ran the 7 kilometres race. 50 student volunteers from the Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS) also participated.

The Marathon Race was Organized by SAMMAN - Social Animation of the Marginalized Migrants and Nomads.  SAMMAN is part of Janvikas (People’s Development) Society managed by the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD) in Bhopal, the Capital city of Madhya Pradesh.

The local Municipal Councillors, Father John P.J., the Director and Principal of Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS) and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion. 

Father James SVD the Director of SAMMAN introduced and welcomed the Dignitaries.

Winners of Bhopal Marathon

The winners were declared and felicitated with Medals, Trophies and Certificates.

Social Animation of the Marginalized Migrants and Nomads (SAMMAN) was started with a vision of giving a dignified life to the socially marginalized, migrants and nomads of the city.

It is part of Janvikas Society which is managed by the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD) in the heart of Bhopal city, the capital of Madhya Pradesh.

Empowerment of women (especially of the Tribal and Dalits) by providing opportunities to enhance the family economy through self-help groups and basic education to their children.

At present, its office is on the campus of SVD Vidya Bhavan, Bhopal.
