Bishop Emeritus Cletus Chandrasiri Perera of the Diocese of Ratnapura in Sri Lanka was honored with the prestigious “Dharma Prabashwara” Salutation Award on August 20 for his outstanding contributions to Catholic music and liturgy in the country.

The award, which comes with a trophy, recognizes Bishop Perera’s tireless dedication to promoting Christian liturgy and music across Sri Lanka, enriching the faith experience of countless believers.

Fluent in both Tamil and Sinhala, the widely spoken languages of the country, Bishop Perera has been a significant figure in integrating local cultural expressions into Catholic worship.

His deep understanding of liturgy is underpinned by his academic achievements, having earned a Licentiate in Sacred Liturgy from the Pontifical Liturgical Institute at the University of St. Anselmo in Rome from 1978 to 1981.

Bishop Perera’s recognition highlights the vital role of music in bridging cultures and enhancing the spiritual life of the Church in Sri Lanka, a mission he has devoted his life to fulfilling.
