Philippines: Ateneo de Manila University to confer honoris causa Doctor of Philosophy degree on Cardinal Tagle
On June 21, the Jesuit-run Ateneo de Manila University will confer the Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy, honoris causa, on Cardinal Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle.
According to a note from Maria Luz C. Vilches, Vice President for Higher Education at Ateneo de Manila University, “Last year, the Ateneo de Manila Board of Trustees resolved to confer the Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy, honoris causa, on Cardinal Tagle.”
Tagle, the former Archbishop of Manila, currently heads the Pro-Prefect for Evangelization of the Dicastery for Evangelization.
Tagle will receive the honorary degree "during the first part of the Higher Education Commencement Rites for Class 2024 from the Schools of Humanities, Management, Education and Learning Design, Science and Engineering, and Social Sciences," according to Vilches.
Tagle will deliver his commencement address right after the conferment ceremony.
This year's commencement theme is "Magpakatotoo: Magpakatao at Makipagkapwa-tao" (Be real: Be human and socialize).
"We hope that Cardinal Tagle's example of compassion and grace in his mission and service to the people will inspire our graduates," said Vilches.
