Manila Cardinal to wash feet of varied professionals on Maundy Thursday

On Maundy Thursday (April 17), Manila Archbishop Jose F. Cardinal Advincula will wash the feet of 12 persons, including priest, nun, health workers, youth, journalist, teacher, and lay leader, among others.
According to the Manila Archdiocese, these men and women “embody hope and love in their daily lives.”
The 12 persons include Fr. Flavie Villanueva, SVD; Sr. Mary Jane T. Valerio, MCST; Mrs. Jhanella Aguado (teacher); Ms. Thessalonica Cadiz (psychometrician); Mr. John Rey Espinoza (youth representative); Mrs. Leah Gatdula (parent); Mr. Philip Sumera (charismatic leader); Anthony C. Leachon (physician); Ms. Lourdes Villaram (PPCRV member); Mr. Jenneson Carl (church volunteer); Ms. Marielle Alegue (TNK member); and Mr. Paterno Esmaquel (journalist).
They were selected in line with the spirit of the Jubilee Year of Hope.
The Washing of the Feet will take place during the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the Manila Cathedral, beginning at 5 PM.
The sacred ritual is rooted in the example set by Jesus during the Last Supper. It serves as a profound reminder of humility, service, and the call to love one another.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
