The canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis, who is set to become the first millennial saint, has been deferred following the death of Pope Francis on April 21, the Vatican said.

Acutis's canonization was planned for April 27, coinciding with the Jubilee of Teenagers at St. Peter’s Square.

Francis beatified Acutis in 2020 and authorized his canonization following the acknowledgement of the second miracle attributed to him on May 23.

Acutis, a British-born Italian teenager, was known for his devotion to the Eucharist, which became a core theme of his life before his death from leukemia at the age of 15 in 2006.

He was born on May 3, 1991, in London, United Kingdom, and died on October 12, 2006, in Monza, Italy, and was buried on April 6, 2019, in Iglesia de Santa Maria Maggiore, Assisi, Italy.

He is the patron of youth, computer programmers, and influencers.
