India: Former Bishop of Srikakulam dies at 84

Innayya Chinna Addagatla, Bishop Emeritus Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, south India, died on April 1 at 11.30 in the evening. He was 84.

He passed away at the Bishop's House, Srikakulam. Funeral details are awaited, said Father Stephen Alathara, deputy secretary general, Conference of Catholic Bishops of India. 

The prelate was the Bishop of Srikakulam (1993-2018) and the Bishop of Nalgonda (1989-1993). 

He was born on May 2, 1937, and ordained a priest on January 4, 1965. 
At the age of 51 on April 17, 1989, he was appointed as the second Bishop of Nalgonda and ordained Bishop on June 29, 1989, at the Maria Rani Cathedral, Nalgonda.

Pope St. John Paul II erected the diocese of Srikakulam bifurcating the Archdiocese of Visakhapatnam on July 1, 1993, and Bishop Innayya was transferred from Nalgonda to Srikakulam. 

From 1993 to 2018 he was the Bishop of Srikakulam. He was retired from the active episcopal ministry on December 12, 2018. 

He is a priest for 57 years and a Bishop for 32 years.
