Catholics join Lenten blood donation campaign in Bahrain
Catholics participated in a blood donation campaign for the Lenten Season in Bahrain, a Muslim-dominated country.
Entitled “Drops of Life,” the campaign aimed to increase awareness about the importance of blood donation.
The Church of the Sacred Heart in Manama hosted the event on February 23.
According to the church’s parish priest, Francis Joseph Padavupurackkal, some 200 people have registered for this Lenten initiative.
The event was organized by Jesus Youth, a Vatican-recognized international charismatic association that spearheads various volunteer work in more than 25 countries.
The group traces its origins to Kerala, India, during the 1970s.
One of the organizers said that a local hospital has expressed profound gratitude for the success of the event.
According to the most recent data from Bahrain's health ministry, various organizations and societies support an average of 70 blood donation camps in the nation each year.
As a result, approximately 11,000 units of blood are processed annually, or 350 ml per unit.
Meanwhile, only about 15% of the estimated 1.46 million inhabitants of Bahrain are Christians, according to Vatican News.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
