St. Peter’s Square filled with prayers, hope for Pope Francis

On the evening of February 24, hundreds of faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square to pray the Rosary for Pope Francis, marking the tenth day of his hospitalization at Gemelli Hospital.
Despite the rain and a transport strike, cardinals, bishops, priests, nuns, families, and laypeople united in prayer for the Holy Father’s health and recovery.
The Rosary was led by Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who called on the faithful to pray fervently so that Pope Francis “may regain his health.”
The event reflected deep affection and solidarity for the 88-year-old pontiff, who has been facing health challenges.
Rosaries and Masses for Pope Francis have been offered worldwide, with dioceses from Buenos Aires to Rome joining in prayer.
During the evening, the faithful recited the Joyful Mysteries before the icon of Mary, Health of the Sick, as Cardinal Parolin entrusted the pope’s recovery to her intercession.
Parolin reminded the crowd, “For two thousand years, the Christian people have prayed for the pope when he is in danger or ill.”
The evening ended with applause, chants of “Viva il Papa" (Long live the Pope!), and heartfelt expressions of hope from those present.
Among the attendees was Cardinal Lazzaro You Heung-sik, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Clergy, who expressed his love and support for the Pope, saying, “We must pray for him, who has loved us so much. I hope he recovers soon.”
As the faithful dispersed, their prayers echoed the Pope’s frequent request: “Pray for me.” The evening was a testament to the unity and love of the Church for its shepherd in his time of need.
