Pope Francis has unveiled the theme for the January 1st, 2025, World Day of Peace: "Forgive Us Our Trespasses, Grant Us Your Peace."

This theme, emphasizing forgiveness and hope, aligns closely with the upcoming Holy Year 2025, set to begin on December 24.

According to the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, this theme is inspired by Pope Francis' encyclicals, particularly Laudato Si' and Fratelli Tutti.

The Jubilee Year will be "a time for conversion that calls us not to condemn, but instead to foster reconciliation and peace," as stated in an announcement released by the Dicastery on August 8.

The theme highlights the importance of both social and spiritual renewal.

The Vatican’s statement stresses that "genuine conversion on all levels—personal, local, and international—is essential to promoting real peace." This transformative process, it is hoped, will lead to "a new reality in which wounds are healed and each person's dignity is recognized."

Pope Francis has consistently underscored that forgiveness is a crucial component in the pursuit of global peace.

The Vatican also used this occasion to appeal to wealthier nations, urging them to engage in the "Jubilee tradition of the forgiveness of sins and the cancellation of debts."

The call for debt relief is framed as a means to inspire "much-needed spiritual, social, economic, ecological, and cultural change."

This theme for the World Day of Peace, with its focus on forgiveness and the renewal of relationships, serves as a profound message of hope and transformation for the coming year.- With input from Vatican News

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
