New lighting and water facilities unveiled for Jubilee 2025

Acea Group and Archbishop Rino Fisichella, Pro-prefect of the Dicastery and the organizer of the 2025 Jubilee Year, unveiled New Light Architecture and water facilities for Jubilee 2025.

A new lighting system for the 140 statues on the Colonnade of Saint Peter’s Square, 14 "Water Houses" providing free drinking water, and the launch of a new water-access app are among the key initiatives for the Jubilee of Hope in 2025.

On December 16, these projects were presented at a Vatican press conference by Monsignor Rino Fisichella and Acea Group, responsible for Rome’s energy and water services.

The statues of the Colonnade, known as the “Council of Saints,” will shine brighter with 280 next-generation LED projectors, offering energy-efficient and environmentally friendly illumination.

The public lighting of Saint Peter’s Square, Via della Conciliazione, and Bernini’s colonnade chandeliers has also been upgraded.

Acea has installed 14 additional "Water Houses" across Rome, providing free drinking water for pilgrims and tourists.

Two facilities near the Vatican Museums and Leonine City will be blessed by Pope Francis on December 18, symbolizing water’s significance as a necessity for life and a work of Mercy.

The new “Acquea” app helps pilgrims locate over 150,000 water points across Rome, with water quality details available in Italian, English, and Spanish.

Acea will promote water conservation awareness during the Jubilee of Adolescents (April 25-27, 2025), which expects to gather over 100,000 young participants.

Archbishop Fisichella praised these sustainable initiatives, expressing gratitude for Acea’s role in enhancing the Jubilee experience for pilgrims worldwide.
