Church officials in Timor-Leste are eagerly preparing to welcome His Holiness Pope Francis for a historic three-day visit from September 9 to 11.

The purpose of his visit was two-fold: to meet with orphaned children and distribute essential supplies to the facility.

"A possible visit by the Holy Father to Timor is in preparation. We can't confirm the date yet; it will be announced by the Holy See together with the government, but it is no secret that we are preparing for this possible visit,” said Monsenor Marco Sprizzi, the Vatican ambassador to Timor-Leste.

Pope Francis is likely to visit at the end of August four countries in Asia—Indonesia, Singapore, Timor-Leste, and Papua New Guinea.

The government should "commit to dialogues, collaborate, and share knowledge and resources towards advancing a common agenda to realize a life of dignity for all with Timor-Leste people," Minz said.
