We don’t have to like everyone, but we all strive to love everybody
June 20, Tuesday of the 11th week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings:2 Corinthians 8:1-9; Gospel: Mathew: 5:43-48
“We don’t have to like everyone, but we must learn to love everybody,” is a quotation that I used to hear from an old sister, which can be found challenging to practice. Loving calls us to go beyond and do it the other way around. It’s a struggle between the heart and mind to go against what the heart feels and what the mind thinks, but the effort made is worth it. There is merit in choosing to do the right thing and the best choice for the good of others.
The heart that loves knows no distinction, while the person who only likes chooses. Our Lord Jesus calls us to love not only those we want but especially those we don’t. He asks us to pray for all, especially those who have wronged us.
Today’s gospel invites us to see beyond what we see because deep within our enemies lies goodness deep down in their hearts. Just as our Lord Jesus Christ believe in the goodness of each person. We, too, are called to do the same. To love, even those who are difficult to love. Remember, we don’t have to like everyone, but we are challenged to strive to love everyone.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
