Like servants who await their master's return.
Steve Job, Apple co-founder who died at age 56, recalled: "When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like this: if you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right.'
It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: if today was the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today? And whenever the answer has been 'no' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something."
The Lord says something similar through today's Gospel passage: "Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master's return from a wedding."
In other words, "Be in a state of readiness." We will be blessed if, when the Lord comes, we are ready for Him. He will come on the last day. But even if the last day arrives hundreds of years from now, the Lord will come for us when we die.
Let us keep ourselves always ready for the Lord's coming by asking, "should I die now, will the Lord be happy to see what I am doing?"
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
