Paul continues to preach the good news in Athens. He emphasizes that they must have faith in Jesus, who underwent death and rose from the dead on the third day. Despite their superstitious beliefs, he urged them to seek correction and discover the true God to worship, rather than relying on idols.
The responsorial psalms are an appreciation of God’s work; heaven and earth are full of your glory.
In the Gospel reading today, Jesus continues to educate the disciples regarding the Paraclete that he will be sending when he will be gone to the Father. He further told them that the Spirit of Truth will prevail, for he will speak what he hears and declare what is coming.
The spirit of truth prevails if we believe and worship God, for God is the Spirit and Truth. If we believe in Jesus, then we also believe in the Father who sent him. In reverence, we need to worship God truthfully. We should not worship God half-heartedly, which means our trust must be in God alone, and we should never entertain anything that might lead us away from God.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: If we have a strong faith in God, then God will always protect us from evil things. We need to believe, for God is the Spirit of truth, and the Spirit of truth will prevail.
Lord, help us to believe in you for you are the Spirit and truth. Amen!
