Presence of God
April 13, Saturday of the Second Week of Easter
Memorial of Saint Martin I, pope and martyr
Daily Readings: Acts 6:1-7; John 6:16-21
The followers multiplied and there were complaints that some of their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. The apostles told the rest of the followers to select seven among themselves to lead with the criterion of a good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, to help in the order of the ministry.
In the gospel today, the disciples went to the sea of Capernaum without Jesus. But when night came, they saw Jesus walking upon the sea and they were so afraid but Jesus told them, “It is I; be not afraid.”
The ministry of Jesus continues even after his death. The apostles took over the leadership and despite some problems they encountered, they were able to solve them, for they were filled with the Holy Spirit, who guided them along the way. The Gospel today says that Jesus is very faithful to his discipleship, for he followed them into the ship by walking upon the sea, and they went out without Jesus.
Fulfilling a mission is not easy, especially if the main leader whom you look up to is not around. However, people are striving to fulfill their obligations. Despite worries, difficulties, and anxieties, people become more courageous because they know that the mission has a purpose and, knowing that this is God's work, know that God will always accompany them, even without his physical presence.
Lord, help us to entrust everything to you as we do our mission, for we know you are always with us. Amen.
