The Preparation
May 6, 2024 Monday of the Sixth Week of Easter
Daily Readings: Acts 16:11-15; John 15:26—16:4a
People accepted the words of God as they spread to various places. In the city of Thyatira, a woman named Lydia heard Paul's teachings. She was so impressed by what she heard that she worshipped God and baptized every one in her household in Jesus' name.
In the Gospel reading, Jesus prepared the hearts of his disciples, particularly for what would happen when he was gone. At the same time, he promised to send the Paraclete to guide them, as they would be giving testimony to him.
How can we prepare people left behind when we leave? For working people, there will be an endorsement; for working parents, there will be instructions to the household to care for the children, food, housework, etc.; and for some terminally ill people, there will be a last will and advance directives.
Individuals strive to ensure the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of their departed loved ones. Concern for those left behind is a sign of love. Similar to Jesus, he prepared his disciples, specifically anticipating what would happen to them when he went to the Father, aware that they shared his identity.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: Jesus' promise to send the Paraclete to guide them is a manifestation of love, for he will always be with them and never abandon his people.
Lord Jesus, help us to prepare our hearts for all the unknown things that might happen in our life. Amen!
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
