September 22, 2024 Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Wisdom 2:12, 17-20; James 3:16-4:3; Mark 9:30-37                                                                             

The Book of Wisdom portrays the righteous as those who live by God's commandments, often seen as a threat to the worldly order, which values power, wealth, and pride. 

The wicked oppose the righteous because their lives challenge the status quo, and the “wise” of this world view them as obstacles to their ambitions.

St. James reminds us that worldly wisdom, driven by selfish ambition and envy, leads to disorder and conflict. In contrast, God's wisdom is pure, peaceable, and humble, fostering love and unity.

In the Gospel, Jesus redefines greatness, taking a child as an example. He teaches that true greatness in God’s kingdom is measured by our willingness to serve, especially the vulnerable. 

Children in ancient times had no status, symbolizing humility, dependence, and openness. 
Welcoming them reflects a life of service and love, acknowledging the inherent dignity of every person.

Are we chasing recognition and power, or are we seeking the wisdom from above, which calls us to be peacemakers and servants? How can we live out this wisdom daily?

Call to Action for Catholic Living: Let us pray for hearts full of humility, seeking God's wisdom in our lives. May we follow Christ’s teachings by serving the marginalized and becoming instruments of peace and love. 

By the Bread of Life, may we bring light and grace to a world in need of God’s wisdom. Amen.
