LSM Korea Leads Ecological Way of the Cross Through the Heart of Seoul

Over 50 priests, religious, and laypeople join the Ecological Way of the Cross led by LSM Korea, walking from Gwanghwamun Square to Myeongdong Cathedral on Good Friday, April 18, 2025.

On Good Friday, April 18, the Laudato Si' Movement (LSM) Korea Chapter led over 50 priests, religious, and laypeople in an Ecological Way of the Cross, journeying from Gwanghwamun Square—one of Seoul’s busiest intersections—to Myeongdong Cathedral, the heart of the Archdiocese of Seoul.

This special observance was an Ecological Way of the Cross, officially approved by the archdiocese. Along the way, participants stopped to pray at significant sites that reflect the suffering of our world today, particularly the pain of our planet and its people.

In front of banks that continue to fund fossil fuel projects, prayers were offered for ecological justice and a shift toward sustainable, life-giving investments.

At the ninth station, the group paused at the site of a high-altitude protest, where a laborer had climbed a 30-meter-high CCTV tower on March 15.

The workers, representing subcontracted employees, climbed the tower to demand the restoration of bonuses and adequate staffing—pleas that were ignored by the company—and there, the faithful prayed for justice and dignity for all workers.

The final station took place in the courtyard of Myeongdong Cathedral, where participants broke into a joyful dance of peace.

Having walked the path of Christ’s suffering, the community expressed solidarity with the cries of the Earth and the poor. This shared journey became a powerful witness of hope, healing, and resurrection.
