Let our hearts be like rich soil
July 20, Wednesday, 16th Week in Ordinary Time
Daily readings: Jeremiah 1:1, 4-10; Gospel: Matthew 13:1-9
In his teaching ministry, Jesus used familiar parables and stories so that people might easily comprehend his message.
Like in the Parable of the Sower, the farmer is Jesus himself; the seed is the Word of God; the path, rock, thorns, and good soil are the hearts of those who hear God’s Word.
As the seed’s fruitfulness depends on the seedbed into which it falls, so the fruitfulness of God’s Word depends on the kind of heart it falls into. It follows then that if the word of God is not fruitful in our lives, it is not the fault of the word.
Different people are given different talents, abilities, and life circumstances, and as long as they produce fruit according to their skills and within their limitations, God’s purpose is served.
Thus, some of the excellent soil might be able to produce only thirtyfold, some only sixty, and yet some a hundredfold.
God does not judge based on quantity but quality. He seeks an honest response to the Word sown rather than equal productivity.
Let our hearts be like fertile soil so that we are prepared to hear God's word and create fruit from it.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
