Eternal Life
June 5, Wednesday Of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time
Memorial of Saint Boniface, Bishop and Martyr
Daily Readings: 2 Timothy 1:1-3, 6-12; Mark 12:18-27
Paul, the appointed apostle of Christ, prays for Timothy. He prayed that God, the Father, and Jesus Christ would grant him grace and mercy.
He also gives thanks to God, whom he serves with a clear conscience, as his ancestors did, for always remembering him in his prayers, night and day.
In the Gospel, the Sadducees questioned Jesus: "If the woman married the seven brothers after her death, on the day of her resurrection, whose wife will she be?"
Jesus responded by assuring them that after they rose from the dead, they would not marry or enter into marriage but would instead be like angels in heaven.
He went on to explain that in the passage from the book of Moses, God declared to Moses, "I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." He is the God of the living, not of the dead.
Eternal life means "forever." It signifies that when life ends on this earth, it continues somewhere else. Just like Jesus said in the Gospel, when the resurrections come, they are like angels in heaven.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: According to scripture, everyone is considered an angel in the next life, where everyone is equal. If our loved ones who passed away ahead of us are now angels in heaven, then they are always watching and protecting us.
Lord, we offer prayers to our beloved dead, who are now angels watching over us. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
