A Call to Discern the Wisdom
September 18, 2024 Wednesday of the Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: 1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13; Luke 7:31-35
Jesus compares the people of His generation to children sitting in the marketplace accusing one another. John the Baptist lived an ascetic life and called the people to repentance but they did not listen to him, saying he had a demon. Then, the Son of Man comes, eating and drinking, engaging with society, and they call Him a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of sinners. They did not listen to neither of them.
The heart of the matter is not what the messenger looks like but the truth of the message itself. Jesus makes it clear: wisdom is vindicated by all her children.
Jesus doesn’t merely criticize; He invites us into a deeper understanding of how God works in our lives. God’s wisdom is often found in unexpected places, among the humble, the outcasts, and those who do not fit neatly into our categories of righteousness.
We are called to examine how we receive God’s word in our own lives. Are we like those who stand on the sidelines, refusing to dance or weep as the Spirit moves among us? Are we willing to embrace this wisdom? Are we willing to find God in the stranger, in the one we disagree with, or in our own fallen selves?
Call to Action for Catholic Living: Let us pray for hearts that dance and weep, that are receptive to the wisdom of God which surrounds us every day. May we always remember that, no matter the form of the messenger, the call to love, to serve, and to follow is ever present. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
