Never be ashamed to express our love and faith in Christ

April 11, Monday of the Holy Week
Daily Readings: Isaiah 42: 1 – 7, Gospel John 12:1–11

The Gospel story today is fascinating. Jesus visited the house of Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead, and Martha was serving Jesus. Mary, the sister of Lazarus, anointed the feet of Jesus with a pound of costly perfume made from genuine aromatic nard oil, and not only that, she dried the feet of Jesus with her beautiful hair. What Mary did was so great.

When we observed Mary's actions on that day, there were several exciting points to note:

Firstly, those present in the banquet hall that day included Jesus, Lazarus, and Jesus' and Mary's disciples. Mary was the sole female in the group. Although she was alone, she was far from shy.

Secondly, Mary anointed Jesus' feet with an expensive perfumed oil bottle. It was an act that had never occurred in public before, but Mary bravely performed it.

Thirdly, Mary wiped Jesus' feet with her hair. It is an extraordinary deed, but Mary accomplished it.

Mary’s reason for the action was love. Her love for Jesus was extraordinary. Because of love, she did not feel fear or shame. She did not feel the slightest fear or shame. She did not feel any fear or shame. Because of love, everything was possible for Mary. Jesus accepted, with pleasure, what came out of a heart full of love.

Mary and Lazarus were living proofs of God's love and salvation. Mary had been redeemed from her sins, and Lazarus had been raised from the dead.

So, the Gospel message for us:

First of all, never be ashamed to express our love and faith in Christ whenever and wherever we are.

Second, God is always ready to forgive our sins and will resurrect us in the last days.

We pray with Our Lady: "God strengthens our faith and love." May we always be ready and brave enough to express our faith and love of God whenever and wherever we are. Amen.
