New bishop ordained in Indonesia’ Sibolga diocese
A new bishop has been ordained for the Diocese of Sibolga in Indonesia’ North Sumatra province on July 29.
The ordination of Bishop Fransiskus Tuaman Sasfo Sinaga has been postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
Only a limited number of people attended Bishop Sinaga’s ordination due to strict health restrictions.
Bishop Sinaga, 49, was infected with COVID-19 on June 11.
The bishop-elect’s predecessor, Bishop Anicetus Sinaga, died of COVID-19, becoming the first Indonesian bishop to succumb to the deadly disease.
The newly ordained bishop said he would install as soon as possible the diocese’s executive bodies, including the vicar general, the diocese’s secretary, and treasurer, among others.
He also stressed the importance of coordination with authorities, interfaith leaders, and the communities.
“[The diocese] will implement … recommendations to establish a self sufficient, compassionate diocese,” said the prelate.
