Albertus Gregory Tan, better known as "Greg," became one of the nominees of Kick Andy Heroes 2022.

He is the initiator of the Care for the Catholic Church movement. So far, Greg has helped build 161 Catholic Churches in 27 dioceses in Indonesia. He also supported 40 students for their scholarships.

What he did made him one of the inspirational people chosen by Kick Andy, one of the most popular talk shows organized by Metro TV, a television station in Indonesia.

Kick Andy, an Indonesian journalist, and writer, is a television program that presents informative real-life stories, educational and inspiring.

Kick Andy Heroes is an event derived from Kick Andy TV Show held once a year by giving awards to inspirational people who are considered heroes for their contribution to society or persons who spread kindness and hope through their work.

Kick Andy started airing on March 1, 2006, and since then, the award has been underway.

Greg started this social work in 2011 after he visited a church in Central Tapanuli Regency, Sorkam district, to be precise in Rawa Polang village, Sibolga diocese, North Sumatra Province.

"I came to that place only to help a priest serve the people who were there. The experience touched and left an imprint on my heart," he said.

The 31-year-old youth started this movement when he was 20 years old. It was not easy for him to begin the movement until he almost gave up.

Many Catholic youths supported him as one of the nominees, as he has become their inspiration for doing good to others.

"I have voted and supported him for sure," said Asty Kulla, is one of the young people who are also Greg's friend.

What Greg did was not only build a church building but more than that. He succeeded in building a spirit of fraternity and solidarity among people and communities.

"The movement has made many people aware of the meaning of sharing. It is this spirit of solidarity that many people want to proclaim, that in the Catholic church, we never judge people from their background," Greg said.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
