Indian Jesuit receives award for lifelong contribution to education, philanthropy
An Indian Jesuit received an award for lifelong contribution to education and philanthropy.
Jesuit Father Felix Raj, the vice-chancellor of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, on March 3, was conferred the prestigious ‘Vivek Jyoti Samman’ (light of wisdom award) by the Swami Vivekananda University, West Bengal, eastern India.
Dr. Subrata Dey, the vice-chancellor of Swami Vivekananda University, Barrackpore, near Kolkata, bestowed the honour upon Father Raj at the Xavier University campus.
Father Raj, an economist, has been working in higher education for the past 38 years.
He has worked for the growth of society through the spread of education and educational facilities besides carrying out various social and development works.
Starting his academic contribution towards building a stronger nation through St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata as its Principal, Father Raj’s dream of creating a bigger arena of academic excellence saw the light of the day with the setting up of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata in 2017.
St. Xavier’s University runs 19 courses with approximately 3000 students on its rolls.
In the future, the university is expected to introduce many other courses with its vision and mission of ‘forming men and women for others.’
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ.
