Philippines countdown to 2025 elections, request to lower noise from campaign jingles in church areas

The noise from campaign jingles has become inevitable, especially with 17 days to go for the 2025 midterm elections in the Philippines.
The campaign period started on March 28 for candidates for the House of Representatives and parliamentary, provincial, city, and municipal officials.
Earlier on April 1, the Sto. Niño Cathedral in Calapan City issued a reminder and appeal.
“To show respect to the Church as a sacred place, all candidates and supporters are requested to lower the volume of whatever campaign jingles when passing through the cathedral and other churches,” it said in a social media post.
Hanging posters and campaign ads or tarpaulins on the side of the cathedral is also prohibited, it added.
On May 12, 2025, an estimated 68 million Filipino voters will participate in the 2025 midterm elections.
They will elect over 18,000 officials: 12 senators, 254 district representatives, 63 party-list representatives, and 17,942 governors, provincial board members, mayors, and councilors.
The election will also cover parliamentary positions in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Voting by overseas voters is from April 30 until May 12. Voting by local absentee voters is on April 30. Liquor Ban and Campaign Prohibition is on May 11. Election Day is May 12. The last day for filing statements of contributions and expenditures is June 11.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
