Sister Marie Ingkie Veloz Taboclaon will be the first Filipina Superior (responsible person) for the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Good and Perpetual Help in the Philippines.

"The new responsibility is a big challenge for me, but with God’s grace and with the cooperation of the members, I hope to serve well God’s people," Sister Ingkie told RVA News.

She succeeded Sister Marie Christine Rayeoux from Mauritius Island after serving for five years.

Sister Ingkie’s appointment was announced on September 30.

Before she was appointed as the superior, she is working as a program coordinator of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC)-Office of Social Communication (OSC) with special responsibility for the online course launched by the Veritas Asia Institute of Social Communication (VAISCOM) last October 2020 at Radio Veritas Asia in the Philippines.

The Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Good and Perpetual Help (also known as BPS Sisters) has two communities in the Philippines; novitiate and retreat house in Silang, Cavite; and Fairview, Quezon City, a formation and study house.

The Sisters in the Philippines are taking care of the poor children’s education by providing scholarships, catechizing, and home visits.

The Congregation’s Generalate House is located in Rome, Italy, with the present Mother General, Mother Danielle Choo Box Sang, from Mauritius, an Indian Ocean island nation.

Speaking about the appointment of Sister Ingkie, the congregation’s Mother General Danielle Choo Box Sang said, "It is the right time that a Filipina should lead the Philippines Mission."

The congregation has 300 members and is serving in 14 countries; Argentina, Belgium, Congo Republic, England, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Madagascar, Mauritius, Peru, Philippines, Poland, and South Korea.

Through heroic charity services, the members strive to bring Jesus to others and make him known and loved.

Their mission is to contribute to the advancement of God’s kingdom here on earth for His greater glory through their charitable services to the poorest among the poor, children, youth, and the aged.

The Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Good and Perpetual Help (Congregazione delle suore di carità del Buon e Perpetuo Soccorso, BPS) is a Pontifical Congregation.

Mother Mary Augustine Lenferna de Laresles and Father Xavier Masuy (a Belgian missionary priest in Mauritius) founded the congregation on June 18, 1850, in Mauritius on the southern African coast in response to the great need for spiritual and material support after their tragic experiences of natural calamities.

They work for the sick, orphans, the elderly, schools, hospitals, and leprosariums. They teach religion classes in both public and private schools; they offer catechism classes every weekend in the convents. They make home visits and give Holy Communions to the sick and elderly. The nuns organize and participate in youth activities all over the world. - Patrick Soe Htun

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
