12 new priests ordained in India's Archdiocese of Goa and Daman
On April 29 and 30, Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão from the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman ordained twelve new priests at the Se Cathedral in India. He counseled them on the significance of humility, joy, and compassion in their service to the community.
The newly ordained priests are Fr Ruel Clyde Fernandes (Assolna), Fr Christ Rayan D’Souza (Velsão), Fr Peter Tyson Gonsalves (Candolim), Fr Dezil Fernandes (Ambaulim), Fr Clifford Fernandes (Ambaulim), Fr Warren Britto Pereira (Betalbatim), Fr Boris Dias (Cuncolim), Fr Venancio Fernandes (Arambol), Fr Anthony Melvin Gomes (Chinchinnim), Fr Clive Agnelo Dias (Chinchinnim), Fr João Gonsalves (Goa-Velha) and Fr Joel Rodrigues (Dramapur).
During the homily, the archbishop said, under the theme "Let us be shepherds of service like Jesus, " that “priests embrace the sacred call to continue the ministry of Jesus in service to the faithful.”
"Jesus' service was characterized by humility, joy, caring for and concern for others, and an all-encompassing service," stated the prelate. “God has chosen these priests to continue the ministry of Jesus the Good Shepherd,” Cardinal Ferrão asserted, stressing the importance of service in their vocation.
The Cardinal advised the newly ordained priests to “know, love, and visit the flock entrusted to your care, understand their struggles, and continue Jesus’ mission through compassionate care.”
Cardinal Ferro emphasized that priests have a mission to "take care of their flock as a collaborator of a Good Shepherd, to give precious time for them, to visit them, to give Jesus to those who are sick and wounded and to show concern towards them."
“Humility and unity with Jesus are essential virtues for effective ministry," emphasized Cardinal Ferrão, who is also the President-Elect of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conference (FABC).
Cardinal Ferrão expressed gratitude to parents, parish priests, and parishioners for offering their sons to serve God and the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
