RVA Day 2024: A celebration of hope and legacy in Kolkata

The RVA Day for the Bengali Service, Kolkata Centre, was celebrated with grandeur and heartfelt enthusiasm at Dishari Pastoral Centre, Baruipur, on November 22, 2024.

This vibrant event united around 100 participants from diverse regions of West Bengal, including Murshidabad, Nadia, Malda, Bardhaman, Birbhum, Bankura, and both South and North 24 Parganas.

Themed "Praise Be the Word of Hope" (Dhonito Hok Ashar Bani in Bengali), the program encapsulated the spirit of optimism and community that defines the RVA Bengali Service.

The day’s proceedings were graced by the presence of Bishop Shyamal Bose, Chairman of RVA Bengali Service, as the chief guest. He was warmly welcomed with a captivating dance performance by alumni of Holy Child School, setting the tone for the celebration.

The ceremonial lamp was lit by Bishop Bose, along with esteemed dignitaries including Dr. Ramen Mazumdar and Sister Sophia, symbolizing hope and inspiration. An invocation prayer led by the bishop fostered a spiritual and uplifting ambiance.

Honored guests were presented with bouquets, mementos, and uttariyas as tokens of appreciation for their contributions.

A poignant PowerPoint presentation traced the remarkable journey of the RVA Bengali Service, stirring nostalgia among attendees. Dr. Ramen Mazumdar, the pioneer of the service, shared fascinating anecdotes from his illustrious career, including interviews with luminaries like Satyajit Ray and Fr. Gaston Roberge.

Adding to the celebration, Dr. Sushovan Chatterjee, a renowned cinematographer, praised the talents of contemporary students, while Ms. Madhurima Chatterjee highlighted the renaissance of radio in the digital era. The morning session concluded with a vibrant duet folk dance performed by Holy Child School alumni, leaving the audience energized and enthralled.

The post-lunch session turned into a heartwarming tribute to individuals who have significantly contributed to RVA's growth. Sister Alma, Fr. Kanouj, and Fr. Gautam Naskar were honored for their invaluable roles. Both past producers, Dilip Mazumder and Kalyan Gomes, and current producers, Teresa Rozario and Atanu Das, were recognized for their dedication.

Special acknowledgment was given to Ms. Chandona Rozario, the Centre Coordinator, for her unwavering leadership.

Listeners, viewers, and supporters were also felicitated, underscoring their indispensable role in the success of RVA Bengali Service.

Journalist Mr. Niloy Samanta delivered an engaging presentation on the transformative power of digital media, emphasizing its potential to bridge gaps and foster meaningful communication.

The day concluded with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony followed by a communal lunch, fostering camaraderie among participants. In his closing remarks, Bishop Shyamal Bose expressed deep gratitude to the attendees and organizers, reaffirming his commitment to RVA’s mission of spreading hope and faith.

Special thanks were extended to Ms. Dyuti Dutta Gupta for her skilled anchoring and to the audiovisual team led by Atanu Das and Teresa Rozario, whose efforts ensured a seamless program. The meticulous oversight of Ms. Chandona Rozario was pivotal in the event’s flawless execution.

RVA Day 2024 was not merely a celebration of the Bengali Service’s legacy but a testament to the enduring bond between its producers and audience.
