Radio Veritas Asia Zo Service celebrates 'RVA Day' amidst Manipur turmoil

Dance program during the RVA Day of Zo Service at St. Thomas Parish, Singhat, Churachandpur District, Manipur, India.

Despite ongoing unrest in Manipur, Radio Veritas Asia (RVA) Zo Service celebrated RVA Day on July 13 at St. Thomas Parish in Singngat, a hilly region with a small Catholic population.

The event attracted over 1,200 attendees from the Churachandpur district, including parishioners from all local Catholic communities.

During the celebration, the Zo Catholic Literature and Liturgical Committee (ZCLLC) unveiled their highly anticipated Jesu Minphat Un (Zo Catholic Hymnal Book), a new prayer book, and the Zo Bible App.

The program began with a Holy Eucharistic celebration presided over by Father Aimeng, former Director of RVA Zo Service and chief translator of ZCLLC, along with six other priests.

Father Aimeng expressed gratitude, stating, "Today is a day to thank the Lord for the gift of RVA and a day to pray for RVA."

He congratulated Father Athanasius Mung, the RVA Zo Service Coordinator, and his team for their continued good work, and urged the audience to pray for both RVA Zo Service and RVA Manila for their unwavering support.

Established on August 6, 1996, by Father Mark Aimeng, Radio Veritas Asia Zo Service carries the theme "The Voice of Asian Christianity."

Its mission is to spread the Word of God in the Zo language. In 2018, the station transitioned from short-wave broadcasts to digital media platforms, embracing technological advancements.

In his message, Father Mung expressed deep gratitude for the listeners' and followers' tireless support.

He sought their continued backing for the future endeavors of RVA Zo Service and highlighted the connection between Radio Veritas Asia Manila, and RVA Zo Service.

As a token of appreciation, Father Mung presented a Bible to the top three dedicated fans of RVA Zo Service and distributed 12 newly released Zo Hymnal Books to all 12 unit churches within the Churachandpur District.

The event was attended by Father Stephen Touthang, Parish Priest of Good Shepherd Parish and Convenor of Manipur Violence, Relief, and Resettlement under the Archdiocese of Imphal, along with members of the Zo Catholic Union, ZCLLC, local church leaders, chiefs, civil society organizations, and friends of RVA.

During RVA Day, Father Aimeng also officially released and declared the Zo Catholic Hymnal Book, Prayer Book, and Zo Bible App for public use.

The President and Secretary of the Zo Catholic Union expressed immense gratitude and appreciation to RVA Zo Service for their dedicated mission within the community and support in releasing the new religious resources.

Job Mantuang, a regular listener and top fan complimented RVA for recognizing and appreciating his support during the event.

He expressed his gratitude for RVA’s mission within the community, noting that as a minority tribe in Manipur, the Zo community lacks social communication and media resources.

RVA has consistently provided free access and support, helping the Zo community rise in the churches and institutions.

The event featured cultural dances by the Zo and Thadou communities, with top singers from the Zo community captivating the audience.

A highlight was the cultural display at the photo booth, which drew significant attention.

Attendees eagerly took photos with the booth, which prominently featured the RVA logo as part of an awareness campaign.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
