Pope names new bishop of Diocese of Ipil in southern Philippines

On April 14, Pope Francis appointed Msgr. Glenn Montebon Corsiga of the clergy of the Diocese of Dumaguete as the new bishop of the Diocese of Ipil in the southern Philippines.
Bishop-elect Corsiga will be the second bishop and fourth ordinary of Ipil, succeeding Archbishop Julius Tonel, who was appointed Archbishop of Zamboanga.
Previous prelates of the diocese of Ipil are Jesuit Bishop Federico Escaler and Jesuit Archbishop Antonio J. Ledesma, who was appointed Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro in 2006.
Monsignor Corsiga was born on January 21, 1965, in Dumaguete City on Negros Island in the southern Philippines.
He studied philosophy at St. Joseph Seminary College in Dumaguete City and theology at Divine Word Seminary in Tagaytay.
On December 14, 1993, the Diocese of Dumaguete ordained him as a priest.
He was the parochial vicar of Sta. Catherine of Alexandria in Dumaguete from 1993 to 1994 and Sta. Clara de Montefalco in Pasay from 1994 to 1997.
He served as the spiritual director of St. Joseph Seminary College in Dumaguete from 1997 to 2002 and chaplain of St. Paul University in Dumaguete from 1998 to 2006.
He was the vice chancellor of the diocese from 2000 to 2001, vice rector (2001–2002), and rector (2002–2014) of St. Joseph Seminary College in Dumaguete.
He was the parish priest of St. James the Greater in Tanjay (2014–2020) and Episcopal Vicar for the North District (2014–2017).
In 2011, Corsiga was one of the 10 priests of Dumaguete Diocese to receive the Papal Award—“Capellano di Sua Santita” (Chaplain of Holiness)—bestowed by Pope Benedict XVI.
At present, he has been the vicar general of the diocese since 2017. Since 2020, he has been the parish priest of St. Augustine of Hippo Parish in Bacong, a town in Negros Oriental province.
