Philippine Catholic School joins 10 million solar rooftop challenge

De La Salle Lipa (DLSL) on March 19 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Center for Energy, Ecology, and Development (CEED) in committing to join and promote the 10 Million Solar Rooftops Challenge, according to a statement issued on March 20.
The challenge was launched last year in July to put up 10 million solar rooftop PV systems across the country through multi-sectoral advocacy and cooperation. CEED served as one of the co-convenors of the initiative.
Multi-sectoral groups and environmental champions, including the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, have previously championed the Challenge, according to CEED.
“This partnership with DLSL is exciting. With this challenge, we see how many are willing to welcome renewable energy. This challenge is for and by every Filipino—DLSL is one of the many examples of this,” said CEED Deputy Executive Director Avril De Torres.
Dr. Merlin Teodosia Suarez added, “We are excited to join the 10 Million Solar Rooftop Challenge. Education will play a giant role in the democratization of energy. Schools like ours must make an effort to help people understand the feasibility of integrating renewable energy into society.
“DLSL’s home province of Batangas is an epicenter of increasing fossil fuel developments in the country, despite the massive potential for renewable energy. With momentum building up, the 10 Million Solar Rooftops Challenge aims to contribute to the transition to clean and reliable energy from renewables in the Philippines,” said CEED.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
