Manila Archbishop appeals for prayers for the healing of Pope Francis

The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila on Wednesday, February 19, issued an appeal for prayer for the healing of Pope Francis, in a social media post, signed by Archbishop of Manila, Jose F. Cardinal Advincula

The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila, Jose F.  Cardinal Advincula, on February 19 issued an appeal for prayer for the healing of Pope Francis, in a social media post.

It said, “The Holy See Press Office informed us that the health condition of the Holy Father presents ‘a complex picture’. Tests reveal that he has bilateral pneumonia that requires additional treatment.”

“In union with the whole Church, let us pray for the healing of our Holy Father, Pope Francis,” it said.

Archbishop Charles John Brown, the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, has appealed to pray for the speedy recovery of the Holy Father as well as for all the doctors and nurses who are taking care of him.

“In response to this call, I would like to request our parishes and communities to organize community prayers for the intention of Pope Francis, like gathering our people for a Holy Hour for the Healing of the Sick, especially of the Pope. Let us likewise offer our personal and family prayers for this intention,” said the appeal.

The 86-year-old pontiff was admitted on February 14 morning due to a respiratory infection and has since been receiving treatment, including a slight adjustment to his medical therapy.

“Let us unite ourselves in prayer in this trying time for the Church.”

Loving and merciful God, we implore You to look kindly upon Your servant, Pope Francis, Touch him with Your compassion and consolation. Restore his health and renew his strength in mind, body, and spirit.

Surround him with your peace and the support of the prayers of your holy people.  We place Pope Francis in your healing love through the doctors, nurses, and medical professionals who take care of him.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen. Mary, Health of the Sick, pray for us.
