Catholics and people from different faiths pay respect to Pope Francis in Malaysia

Archbishop Julian Leow and dignitaries join the faithful at St. John’s Cathedral on April 23 to honor Pope Francis and sign the condolence book.

On April 23, many Catholics and religious individuals gathered at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist to pay their respects to Pope Francis and sign the condolence book.

Among those present were dignitaries YB Teresa Kok, a member of parliament for Taman Seputeh; Loh Pai Ling, president of the Buddhist Missionary Society Malaysia; her colleague Thai Ming Yeow; and Roger Yapp Kah Chong, the Sabah representative from the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA).

Archbishop Julian Leow Beng Kim of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, thanked everyone for their presence and prayers for the late Pope Francis.

The 88-year-old Pope Francis died of a stroke and irreversible heart failure on April 21, 2025, in the Vatican. His funeral will be held on April 26, 2025.
