Madras-Mylapore Archdiocese launches Jubilee 2025 with Cross and Mascot unveiling
The Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore advanced its preparations for Jubilee 2025 by unveiling the Jubilee Cross and the Luce Mascot on November 13, 2024, at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre.
The event took place during the CCBI Jubilee Yatra on Wednesday as part of the clergy’s recollection, marking the beginning of the Archdiocese’s journey toward the Holy Year Jubilee.
Bishop George Antonysamy, Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore, President of the Tamil Nadu Bishops’ Council (TNBC), and Vice-President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), delivered the Presidential Address.
Reflecting on the recent Synod, he remarked, “Although the Synod has concluded, the process of synodality continues; journeying together, as pilgrims of hope, we walk into the Holy Year Jubilee 2025.”
The Jubilee Cross, designed by Fr. Vincent Chinnadurai, Diocesan Contact Person for Jubilee 2025, was unveiled by Archbishop Antony Sammy in the presence of Msgr. G. J. Antonysamy, Vicar General.
Standing as a powerful symbol of faith and unity, the cross embodies the tone and spirit of the upcoming Holy Year celebrations.
The Luce Mascot, representing the Jubilee of Children in the Archdiocese, was then introduced by Fr. Peter Thumma, Episcopal Vicar, alongside Fr. Raymond Peter, Secretary of the Commission for Catechetics.
Designed to inspire and engage young members of the Archdiocese, the Luce Mascot symbolizes illumination and guidance on their journey toward the Jubilee.
The event, organized by Fr. J. Joseph Arockia Jayakumar, featured an enlightening talk by Fr. Yesu Karunanidhi, National Coordinator for Jubilee 2025.
His presentation, “Jubilee 2025: Context, Preparations, and Celebrations,” outlined the vision for the Holy Year and emphasized its importance to the faithful.
The Thomas Cross – Modeled after the Bleeding Cross of Saint Thomas, this cross symbolizes St. Thomas’s legacy and his sacrifice as the “father of faith” for the local Church, as he was martyred in prayer before it.
Christ as Prophet, Priest, and King – Inspired by the altar statue of Christ in the Cathedral, the cross features Jesus as a priest, crowned and anointed by the Holy Spirit, representing his mission as prophet, priest, and king. This image underscores the shared ministry of the archdiocese’s laity, religious, and clergy.
Anchor of Hope – Reflecting the official Jubilee 2025 theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” an anchor symbolizes the message of Hebrews 6:19: “We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul.” This serves as a reminder of the faith rooted in St. Thomas and upheld through generations, grounding the Archdiocese in hope as it journeys forward.
As a powerful symbol of faith and hope, the Jubilee Cross guides the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore toward Jubilee 2025, drawing strength from its rich heritage and the universal call to journey together.
