India: CCBI launches “Canon Law for a Synodal Church” online diploma

The CCBI has announced a new diploma course titled “Canon Law for a Synodal Church.”

The Commission for Canon Law and Other Legislative Texts of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) has announced a new diploma course titled “Canon Law for a Synodal Church.”

The course, spearheaded by Father Merlin Rengith Ambrose, aims to raise awareness among laypeople about their rights, responsibilities, and their vital role in building a participatory and co-responsible Church.

Based on the invitation for all baptized people to participate in Christ’s three main roles—teaching, making holy, and leading—the course will look into canon law, official church teachings, lay ministries, and the systems that support a genuinely collaborative church.

The course will run from June 7, 2025, to January 24, 2026, with sessions held every Saturday from 4 to 6:30 PM via Zoom.

Under the guidance of Bishop Antonysamy Savarimuthu, this initiative offers the laity a chance to deepen their understanding and actively live out their baptismal call as missionary disciples.

For more information, contact Father Merlin Rengith Ambrose at 9884668927, Fr. Duming at 9309110391, or email shantisadangoa@gmail.com.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
