India: Madha TV, SIGNIS Tamil Nadu host AI training for youth

Madha TV, a leading Tamil Catholic media channel, hosted an artificial intelligence (AI) training from March 15 to 16 at Sathangai Academy in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, south India.
In collaboration with SIGNIS Tamil Nadu, the event gathered 40 young participants from the dioceses of Madurai, Sivagangai, and Dindigul.
The workshop focused on the ethical and practical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in media and social service.
The first day opened with an inaugural address by Father Alex Gnana Raj, director of Sathangai Academy.
Renowned journalist and former Member of Parliament (MP), Rabi Bernard, inspired the youth with a session on “Responsible and Responsive Youth,” highlighting the importance of ethical media practices.
Father Jenith Sekar introduced AI tools to the participants, while Father Arulanandam, president of SIGNIS Tamil Nadu, discussed AI ethics.
Father Edison, secretary of the Tamil Nadu Bishops' Council Youth Commission, delivered a session on “Mediacracy in the AI World.” The day concluded with the celebration of Holy Mass.
The second day began with Holy Mass, followed by hands-on training led by Dr. Vimal Jerold, assistant professor.
Participants explored AI tools for multimedia content creation and learned how AI can enhance modern storytelling.
Father Fr. David Arockiam, CEO of Madha TV, closed the workshop with an address on the significance of AI in ethical media and the future of youth empowerment.
Participants were awarded certificates and received a translated copy of Pope Francis’ message on AI and the Church.
Through this initiative, Madha TV and SIGNIS Tamil Nadu reaffirmed their mission to equip youth with digital skills, promoting AI as a tool for ethical storytelling and social justice.
