India: Jubilee of children celebrated with hope and unity in Archdiocese of Goa and Daman
The Holy Childhood Association of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman marked the jubilee of children with a special observance on February 16, 2025, at St. Joseph's Church in São José de Areal, south Goa, India.
Fr. Henry Falcão, Episcopal Vicar for the North Zone of the Archdiocese, presided over the Eucharistic celebration, concelebrated by Fr. Maverick Fernandes, director of the Holy Childhood Association; Fr. Savio Fernandes, executive secretary of the Council of Social Justice and Peace; Fr. Walter Dsouza, in charge of St. Francis Xavier Academy, Old Goa; and Fr. Movin Menezes, assistant parish priest at São José de Areal.
In his homily, themed "We are Children of Hope," Fr. Falcão urged the children to support one another and serve as a beacon of hope.
He highlighted stories from Veronica Fernandes (St. Alex Orphanage, Calangute), Alricha Viegas (St. Anthony's Boys Home, Verna), and Gautam (St. Francis Xavier's Academy), who shared their experiences in various institutions.
Fr. Falcão emphasized the importance of gratitude and helping those less fortunate, especially children facing physical and mental challenges.
The celebration brought together students from St. Alex Orphanage, St. Anthony's Home, Holy Family Boarding, and St. Francis Xavier Training Centre for Children with Disabilities, along with Confirmation catechism students from São José de Areal Parish and children from the Quepem deanery.
The children participated in creative activities, including painting the corporal works of mercy, performing skits, and crafting Bible value slogans.
The event, anchored by Feliz Goes, also saw reflections on daily spiritual lives and hobbies by students from Holy Family Boarding.
Fr. Movin Menezes and Fr. Savio Fernandes thanked Fr. Damaciano Carvalho, the parish priest, and all those who contributed to the success of the event.
The jubilee of children was a memorable celebration, fostering a spirit of hope, unity, and faith, and reinforcing the importance of caring for one another within the Archdiocese.
